of Academic Texts in Archaeology & History
Dr. Dirk H. Steinforth, Translator and Archaeologist
Anyone hoping to make the academic world – or the interested public – notice their archaeological or historical research has to publish it in books or journals – and publication in English guarantees a wide distrubution of results and ideas.
I am a trained archaeologist and medievalist in Göttingen, Germany, working as a freelance translator (German ↔ English) and proofreader of academic texts for publication in e.g. journals, books, and museum exhibitions. Through long and intensive study and use of the English language and my experience with the archaeological material, I am able to offer not only careful and competent translations, but also comments regarding content and style of the text, if requested.
My fees are based on the word count of the original text. Please contact me.
I obtained my doctor's degree from Göttingen University with a study about the early settlement phase of the Vikings in the Isle of Man, and I am now working as an Independent Researcher on projects on various aspects of the Viking Age in the Irish Sea area, particularly regarding archaeological and historical evidence of settlement processes and their chronology. Other fields of research are burial Viking-Age custom, ethnogenesis, iconography, as well as the medieval stone monuments in the Isle of Man and north England and their contexts. I published two monographs and several research papers about these subjects and presented my work at international conferences throughout Europe.
